My topic was about “people opinion on wearing Rakchya Bandhan (Rakhi)”. After going through this topic, I got opportunity to explore in different aspect which is associated with the topic. I got opportunities to learn various aspects of popular culture and correlate the topic with the theories like Myths, Icons, Ritual and Stereotypes. This theory helps us to get more information and helps us to understand the surrounding where we live our life. For my topic the theories like popular belief, myths and ritual are very mush related.

 After going through the theories, I found my topic very interesting to learn fact and able to do research. My topic is related with religious belief and the cultural values which is practice in between the brother and sister if the Hindu culture. Rakhi has the popular belief that on wearing it, the life of the brother and sister has long life by seeking blessing from the god and goddesses. It also has the popular myth that after wearing it ht brother and sister will hold everlasting life. People’s opinion about wearing Rakhi is related to belief towards their religion, culture and god.  Before starting this topic I use to ignore these theories but after going through this course I was able to analysis the topic by the theories. After analysis on the topic I found that all the theories were very much informative and essential for us. I feell I am lucky that I was able to learn the popular belief and myth where I was able to share my feeling. I fell so much happy to share my feeling through these theories. Heroes, cult of celebrity, stereotype etc are the more interesting finding for my analyses.

Before I start this course, I use to take this type of topic very lightly in a simple way because I was new to different aspect of viewing the thing in different way. But after covering this topic, I realized that the words are delicate and challenging to proof the valuable imminent. Now I started to see the popular culture from different dimension and also able to find different hidden aspect of my topic. I was clear about the myth, beliefs, stereotypes, Heroes and cult of the celebrity. Finally, I am able to find the impact caused by popular culture and the society.

People’s opinion on wearing Rakchya Bandhan (Rakhi)

The topic for my assignment is people opinion on wearing Rakhi in between brother and sister. Rakchiya bandhan is composed of ‘Rakachya’ which means protection and ‘Bandhan’ means thread. The convention part of the formula is applied in this topic. While wearing Rakhi people believes that there is a super natural power to have better relation and that Bandhan helps to protect from evil and bad thing. People think that is good to wear Rakhi which can bring good relation between brother and sister. Hindu follows this kinds of theories who beliefs on cultural artifact. Rakhi gives cultural and religious important who wear it. Different kinds of Rakhi are made in different style in the market. As the change in generation and generation, its style is changing day by day. The formula regarding the Rakhi has been changed in the generations in terms of the invention i.e. shape, forms and sizes.

I found my topic is somehow related with the topic like invention and convention. While talking about the convention, if it gets break then it is considered as bad symbol. Rakhi should be protected and keep it safe with love a care which leads to everlasting life of both brother and sister with peace and prosperity. While talking about the invention, the shape and size are changing by generation to generation. Before some year it is not very much celebrated in Nepal but now many brother and sister use to celebrate this festival. Now, the inventions are made in many kind of design whereas we can absolve the change in intention that is made in the Rakhi in every part of the world where Hindu is residing.

After applying these theories I come to know that the convection remains same all the time but invention may get change as the time passes. In this topic convention remains same or constant but the inventions are change according to the time change.

Assignment 1-3-2 Journal article analysis

I have chosen article ‘invasion of the Every girl: Seventeen Magazine, “Traumarama” and the Girl Writer,’ for my analysis. The main part of focus of this article is about the teenage magazines where young girl want to be perfect. For this article most of the information is taken from “Traumarama” in Seventeen Magazine.

While taking the random teenage girls sample of common publish letters which was subscribe to the magazine , in that type of letter the young readers share about the uncomfortable incident that has happened to them in their life. The reason for sharing that type of incident by other girl is that there are many girl with whom same thing was happen to them in their which gives themselves feel the sense of belongingness in their life. The chief of the Seventeen Magazine share his embarrassing moment about his life to gain trust by which the young readers can feel themselves as a part of magazine.

Author ‘Carly Moore’, of this article believes that the common this which was happen within girl between girls should avoid the awkward situation in order to be perfect in their life, they should avoid these kind of thing in their life. This type of story are commonly used and edited in other article to update to adjust in other article. The author believes that the stories are edited to always have the same ending which must be perfect and the girl are having the same stories the reason is that the stories can teaches other girls about the same thing that are happen with the girl not to do the same thing by other girl in future and does not repeat the same thing in their life.

 Ms. Moore has classified the situation into three segments.  In these three segments all the segment runs at the same range which is one of excess. The three segments which were classified by Ms. Moore are ‘A Girl is Just Too Smart of Just Not Smart Enough’, ‘A Girl is just Too Smart of Just Not Smart Enough’ and A Girl’s Body is always Too Much’.  All these three stories have been published by Seventeen Magazine in their “Traumarama!” . Most of the things fall in the under these three categories. The story is also about the feeling, perception of the teens towards their life.

My perception towards this article is, it is interesting and has gave many example to support her perception which has presented in the article. Article as well written and the theme of the article are very interesting. While reading the stories I feel some difficulty but the concept as clearly written. While writing the magazine “Seventeen Magazine” the author has provided many examples and also describes each things three segment with the example which is clearly stated. The story was collected from the teen’s girls who give the further details about the real life and the reader or teen they will not repeat the same thing in the future. This article is about the teens that are having the same kind of feeling and the repeating in their life.

I support the author for having two teenage daughters. These stories portrays that they are the harmless and demonstrate a young girl that they are not the victim of the embarrassing moments.  I remember of reading more than a few stories that happened to me in my young days. While going such stories it used to shock and traumatize me a lot. I used to share such stories to my parents and friends circle as it is shocking one. The girls who is always awkward and who seek female support in their life may harm and become threat to their life and compel to feel unsure of own self.

I encourage all the age group of the female should go through this sort of the article. We, as being part of the family, support all the female members to be the good one but not to the position of being perfect. We should always support and encourage them in their work and creation but shouldn’t force to the position or the state is unattainable like perfection. We should always work hard to make feel that they are important part of the family members and ensure that without them family remains incomplete.

Heroes are those who have personality such as admirable, dedicated and hare working. Celebrity cult is the devotion, admiration and affection of a personality. Here I have discuses on the topic Heroes and celebrity cult. Wearing of Rakhi is termed as love, affection, admire, respect and attachment between brother and sister. Rakhi is wearied by both brother and sister in which people use to think that there relation is a strong relation and does not look with negative thinking. It is a respect and praiseworthy function made between brother and sister. In this ceremony brother and sister wishes and ask with good for each other long life. While talking about cult of the celebrity, both brother and sister put Rakhi in their hand. This shows the respect, love and affection between brother and sister. Wearing of Rakhi by them in which people think that they are having traditional relation and are highly respected and renowned in the society. People who wear Rakhi is highly respected in society and are highly respected.

In the insights, I gain after applying theories to my topic, there are good and bad people both in the society. Good people get these Rakhi in a positive way but bad people treated as these character as a fake relation and use the relation in bad manure. If these bad things happen between brother and sister then they are punished and have to pay the penalties by the rules and regulation of the society or country as well. Rakhi is consisting of huge religious and cultural belief which is considered to be blessing of god. By the help of heroes and celebrities we can spread the positive message between the members of the society. These theories consist of inspiration and role model so people follow it in positive way.

Ritual is a set of action to fulfill ceremony or custom to be followed which is based upon the religious belief and are the part of religion and cultural heritage. Stereotype is basic thought based upon some previous belief. It is a process of simplification of the feature of an individual of the group based on image of the individual located in that group.

To illustrate the ritual of wearing Rakhi by sister is in a day of rakshya bandhan. In this ceremony, sister put Rakhi in the hand of brother. This is a symbol of everlasting and durable relationship between brother and sister. The shape and size is depending on the act of an individual. The ritual of wearing Rakhi is that shows love and affection by sister to her brother as well as brother to his sister which shows a strong bond between brother and sister. This ritual of wearing Rakhi is practice in our country Nepal.

Whereas taking about stereotype regarding wearing Rakhi have both positive and negative idea. While talking about the positive thought, both the brother and sister have strong bound. It is a symbol of care, love to the brother and sister. It is a thread that keeps bad people though away. While talking about the negative aspect of Rakhi, if a girls or a boy feel unsafe with some other then they make brother or sister to them and band them Rakhi. It is better to focus upon good relation on understanding each other rather than putting other unknown Rakhi. Some of the people think that Rakhi is an unbreakable chain which keeps the relation between brother and sister.

While talking about the ritual and stereotype the system of wearing the Rakhi comes from the ancient time according to the Hindu culture. This is based upon the cultural and religious belief in which many people based upon the comfortable on wearing Rakhi. Many believe that Rakhi is a blessing of god and goddesses to the brother and sister to have strong relationship.

Written Analysis 1

Raksha Bandhan (Rakhi)

Raksha Bandhan (Rakhi) is of Hindu culture in which sister band Rakhi on the hand of brother. This festival is done on the day of full moon of the month of shrawan. In the Raksha Bandhan sister and brother wish good for each other long life, happiness and goodwill. This shows love and affection by a sister to her brother. In this festivals sister pray long life for her brother whereas in return give Rakhi gifts and promise to care lifelong.

Hindu has a traditional belief that this Rakhi is iron chain that binds brother and sister with having a good relationship. This Rakshya bandhan is also a bond of protection. In this day brother give a promise to protect her from harms and difficulty. There is n historical example that rakhi is been a ‘raksha’ which means Protection. Rakhi means the protection or binding of sister was leading. There is a ancient belief in the Hindu culture that at the ancient time of Mahabharat when Lord Krishna killed the king Shishupal. Lord Krishna was wonden in the and have a bledding in the finger of hand in which Draupathi torn a strip of the cloth from her sari and tied on the figure of Lord Krishna. Lord Krishna speaks out himself having a sister and probism to repay the debt to her. After many year when Pandavas lost Draupathi in dice game Kaurava decided to remove her sari but with the help of Krishna they could not remove her sari.

 

Rakshya Bandhan is a festival in which brother and sister express perfect love or affection in traditional manner.
